| SPICY APPLE CAKE |

9 servings1/2 cup CRISCO 1 cup sugar 1 egg 1-1/2 cups sifted flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg 3/4 teaspoon salt 2-1/2 cups very finely chopped tart cooking apples (about 1 pound apples) 1/2 cup coarsely chopped walnuts Whipped cream or ice cream Preheat oven to 350ºF. In mixing bowl, cream together the Crisco and sugar; beat in egg. Combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Stir into creamed mixture. Stir in the apple. Turn into an ungreased 9 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan; sprinkle with the chopped nuts. Bake at 350ºF for 40 to 45 minutes or till cake tests done. Serve cake squares warm or cool with whipped cream or ice cream. |
