QUICK 'N' RICH CHOCOLATY CAKE Print E-mail
About 8 servings

1/3 cup CRISCO shortening
1-1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1 cup unsweetened cocoa
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup water
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 tablespoons white vinegar
Confectioners' sugar


Preheat oven to 375ºF.
Melt Crisco in a saucepan over medium heat.
Grease and flour a 9 x 1-1/2-inch round layer cake pan.
Combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl. Add water, vanilla extract, and melted Crisco, stirring until blended. Stir in vinegar quickly but carefully until blended. Immediately turn batter into pan and set in oven.
Bake at 375ºF for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely in pan.
Dust lightly with confectioners' sugar.
