Makes about 2 Dozen Bars Cookie Base 1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar 1/4 cup Butter Flavor CRISCO or 1/4 Butter Flavor CRISCO Stick 1 egg 1 teaspoon grated orange peel 1 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 cup orange juice 1/4 cup milk 1/2 cup chopped dates 1/2 cup chopped walnuts Glaze 1 cup confectioners' sugar 4 -1/2 teaspoons orange juice Heat oven to 350ºF. Grease 9 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan with Butter Flavor Crisco. For cookie base, combine brown sugar and Butter Flavor Crisco in large bowl. Beat at medium speed of electric mixer until well blended. Beat in egg and orange peel. Combine flour, baking powder and baking soda. Combine 1/4 cup orange juice and milk. Add flour mixture and juice mixture alternately to creamed mixture at low speed. Beat until well blended. Stir in dates and nuts with spoon. Spread in greased pan. Bake at 350ºF for 21 to 23 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely in pan. For glaze, combine confectioners' sugar and 4-1/2 teaspoons orange juice. Stir until smooth. Pour over cooled base. Spread to cover. Cut into bars about 2-1/4 x 1-1/2-inches. |
