8 to 10 servings1-1/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour 1 cup sugar 1-1/4 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 3 tablespoons CRISCO shortening 1 cup milk 1 egg 3 envelopes (1 ounce each) premelted unsweetened chocolate 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate pieces 1/4 cup chopped nuts Preheat oven to 350ºF. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and baking soda in a large mixer bowl. Add Crisco, milk, egg, premelted chocolate, and vanilla extract. Blend on low speed. Beat for 3 minutes on high speed. Mix in chocolate pieces and nuts. Turn batter into a greased and lightly floured 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan. Bake at 350ºF for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan on a rack. |
