| BOUNTIFUL APPLE PIE |

Makes One 10-inch Pie 8 ServingsCrust 10-inch Classic CRISCO Double Crust Filling 6 to 7 cups thinly sliced, peeled baking apples (about 2-1/4 pounds or 6 to 7 medium) 1 cup sugar 1/3 cup all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg 1/8 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons butter or margarine For crust, prepare (see Classic Crisco Pie Crust recipe) and press bottom crust into 10-inch pie plate. Do not bake. Heat oven to 425ºF. For filling, place apples in large bowl. Combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Sprinkle over apples. Toss to coat well. Spoon into unbaked pie crust. Dot with butter. Moisten pastry edge with water. Cover pie with top crust. Cut slits in top crust to allow steam to escape. For glaze, brush with about 2 tablespoons melted butter, if desired. Bake at 425ºF for 10 to 15 minutes or until top crust begins to brown. REDUCE OVEN TEMPERATURE TO 400ºF. Bake for 40 minutes or until filling in center is bubbly and crust is golden brown. Cool until barely warm or to room temperature before serving. |
