Makes a 10-inch Round Cake 10 to 12 ServingsCake: 2 cups granulated sugar 1/2 cup Butter Flavor CRISCO all-vegetable shortening or 1/2 Butter Flavor CRISCO Stick 2 eggs 1 -1/2 cups applesauce 3 cups plus 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour, divided 1 -1/2 teaspoons baking soda 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves 1/2 cup water 1/2 cup chopped pecans Topping: Confectioners' sugar Heat oven to 300ºF. Grease 10-inch round cake pan with Butter Flavor Crisco. Flour lightly. For cake, combine granulated sugar and Butter Flavor Crisco in large bowl. Beat at medium speed of electric mixer 1 minute. Add eggs. Beat 1 minute. Add applesauce. Beat 1 minute. Combine 3 cups flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg and cloves in medium bowl. Add to creamed mixture in 2 parts, beating after each addition just until blended. Add water. Beat 1 minute. Toss nuts with remaining 1 tablespoon flour in small bowl. Stir into batter with spoon. Pour into pan. Bake at 300ºF for 1 hour 15 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 20 to 25 minutes on wire rack before removing from pan. Place cake, top side up, on serving plate. Cool completely. For topping, place doily on cake top. Sift confectioners' sugar over doily. Remove doily carefully to leave sugar pattern. |
