Makes 1 dozen rolls2 cups all-purpose flour 1 tablespoon baking powder 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup CRISCO all-vegetable shortening or 1/2 CRISCO Stick 1/2 cup milk 1 cup finely shredded sharp Cheddar cheese Preheat oven to 450ºF. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Cut Crisco into dry ingredients with pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse meal. Make a well in center and add milk; stir with fork until dough follows fork. Form dough into a ball and knead lightly with fingertips 10 to 15 times on a lightly floured surface. Roll dough into a 12 x 10-inch rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into 5 lengthwise strips. Sprinkle 4 dough strips with cheese, stack stripe, and top with remaining strip. Cut into 12 equal sections. Place sections cut-side-up in greased muffin cups. Bake at 450ºF for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown. |
