BUTTERY BREAD DOUGH Print E-mail
Prep time: 15 minutes
Rise time: 1-1/2 - 2 hours
Used to make other breads

1 package active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water (110 - 115F)
1/2 cup warm milk (110 - 115F)
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup Butter Flavor Crisco all-vegetable shortening or 1/4 Butter Flavor Crisco stick, softened
2 eggs
2-1/2 to 3 cups all-purpose flour, divided
CRISCO No-Stick Cooking Spray

In a small mixing bowl dissolve yeast in warm water; let stand 5 minutes. In the bowl of an electric mixer, beat together the milk, sugar, salt, Butter Flavor Crisco and eggs. Add the yeast mixture; beat thoroughly. Add 2-1/2 cups flour; beat well. Turn dough out onto a well-floured board; knead about 5 minutes, or until smooth and elastic, adding only enough flour to make dough easy to handle. Shape dough into ball. Spray a large bowl with Crisco No Stick Cooking Spray; place dough in prepared bowl. Turn dough over. Cover: let rise in warm place until doubled, about 1-1/2 to 2 hours. Punch down dough. Shape as directed in recipe.

Basic Loaf: Form into loaf. Place in well-greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan. Cover; let rise in warm place until doubled, about 1 hour. Bake at 375ºF for 30 to 35 minutes, or until light golden brown.
